Junior League Round up
11 Jul 2023
Sharks went into the Nuneaton Junior league having retained our place in the premier division in 2022. The premier League is the best 18 teams in the area with no restrictions on entry so there really are some very good swimmers and it is highly competitive. This is also a lot of swimmers first entry into Galas and we had several members in the under 9's who it was their first events.
Gala 1 Leamington Spa
In their first Gala Sharks were up against Braunston, Wombourne, Nuneaton and Bedworth A, Orion and Leamington. The team finished with 143 points and a very solid 4th place. There were some very strong performances, with Bella Bartlett winning the Girls/11 50 Breast stroke and 2nd places for Annabelle Stacey in the fly(12 girls), Harrison-James Grant 25m fly (9 boys), Eve Elek 50m breast stroke (10 girls), Arabella Partington 25m fly (girls 10). This result put us firmly in mid table after the first gala.
Gala 2 Leamington Spa
Gala 2 was back at Newbold Comyn, and we had drawn Blythe Barracudas, Kingsbury, Wolverhampton, Leamington and Worcester. The team finished this time with a very good haul of 170 points which was good enough for 4th place again, only a few points behind Blythe in 3rd. The standouts in the gala were, the girls 10 relays team Mya T, Cora W, Arrabella P and Evangeline H winning both the freestyle and Medley Relays, Arabella P in the 25m fly (10s) and Evangeline H 50m back (10s), Jacob Smith 1st 50m breast, Alex Scott 2nd (50m back), Grace Minshall 2nd (25m fly).
Gala 3 Rugby
Gala 3 was at Rugby and the team were currently just below mid table but we had drawn possibly the hardest opponents, Chase, Blythe, Braunston, City of Cov and Hinkley, the way the draw had gone we were up against 5 other teams higher than us in the table and most of them were aiming to make the finals (top 6). Sharks although finishing 6th maxed out the points on 140, which was a terrific total considering the opposition. There were several stand out performances, Evangline Harris and Jacob Smith winning the 50m free(10s), Eve Elek 50m breast (10s), Arabella Partington 25m fly(10s) and our quartet of Eve E, Arabella P, Evangline H and Cora W were unbeaten in both girls 10 relays, also Toby Smith in the boys 50m breast (2nd).
