THE SEASON SO FAR

Sharks 100s

This was the first gala of the season, open to Sharks only, at Abbey Stadium Redditch. The name refers to there being 100m events across all strokes and we had a number of swimmers competing for the very first time. There were too many medals to list here but you can get a full list of results on British Rankings.

Coventry Sprints

Coventry sprints is always the first Open Meet of the swimming season and is a great opportunity for swimmers to get long course experience in all strokes. The top 8 swimmers over all strokes in each age group go through to the final where they battle it out over 200IM. Sharks took a vast number of competitors to this event and it was great to see some swimmers new to open meets there for their first go.

We had a very successful gala with a number of swimmers getting medals including:

1sts:- Bella B(Breast) Arabella P(breast, fly), Harry C (breast), Grace M (Back), Jacob S(Free, Fly), Katy H(Free), Annabel S(Breast)

2nds:-  Annabelle S(Fly), Jacob S(back), Oliver S (Back), Izzy G(Back), Katy H(Breast), Toby S (Breast)

3rds:- Eve E(Back)

Congratulations to the following competitors who made the final 8 in their age group to compete in the 200IM final:

Grace, Bella, Eve, Katy, Izzy, Harry, Arabella, Annabel, Toby
The events were all very busy with 40-50 competitors in most age category. Beyond winning medals there were some really noticeable improvements and massive PBs including Esme M(5+ seconds PB) Aurelia M(5+ second PB freestyle), Joe H(5+ seconds 50 free), Islay M(4 seconds 50 free).
Finally Jacob S smashed another club record for the boys 11 50 fly long course.

County Pathways Programme....

Huge congratulations to Jacob S, Evangeline, Arabella and Isla T who have been invited onto the Warwickshire County Pathway Programme.

This is the first step on the Swim England Talent Pathway. 48 swimmers aged 12 are selected from each county by Swim England (not their clubs!) based on long course 200m IM rankings. They will get a number of days additional training over the course of the season, ahead of County Championships.

New Sharks blog

Loads goes into being a successful, happy swimmer and it can be a lot to manage and understand. To help Sharks navigate it all we’re launching a new series of blogposts, covering topics from health and emotional well-being, to development opportunities and how meets are structured. If there’s anything you’d like us to cover please let us know.

We’re kicking off with a topic that doesn’t get spoken about much even though it affects 50% of our swimmers….periods.

Everyone Active Offer

The gym membership joining fee has been reduced to £1 until the end of September. Packages include access to pools, gyms and classes at six local centres including Stratford and Shipston so it’s a good opportunity for Sharks parents to get a workout in while their swimmers are in the pool!
