Performance 1

Lead Coach: Kim Mortimer

Group Aims & Objectives

To compete at Midlands or at National level with good commitment to the programme. Swimmers will be targeting the Regionals and Nationals competitions. Swimmers should aim to reach the highest levels based on ability and commitment levels.

Group Entry Criteria (Accepted)

  • Having achieved at Nationals at Welsh/Scottish/Irish/English/British Qualifying Times and Midlands qualifiers or within 1-3 %
  • Desire and will to improve and progress through Stratford Sharks Swimming Club
  • 100% commitment to team events
  • Signed and returned copies of Swimmer Code of Conduct & Parents Code of Conduct
  • Behaviours – respectful, engaged, supportive, caring, coachable and empathetic
  • Swimmers are to be able to competently and consistently be able to train on
  • Consistently attending at least 3 evenings 2 mornings and 2 land training sessions
  • Be organised and professional (bringing appropriate equipment/kit/drink to each session)
  • To perform pre pool and post pool routines
  • Repeat 100m’s at 1.40 with descending times
  • Swim 6 x 300m off 4.30 with descending target times
  • 6 x 200m off 3.00 with descending times
  • Repeat 66m Kick under 1.30
  • To be able to complete a 2-hour session ( or 6k +) comfortably

Group Entry Criteria (Considered)

  • Swimmers assessed by Head Coach to have near term potential, and/or having longer term potential, may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3 – 12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.
  • Swimmers that are identified/selected for any Stratford Sharks relay at Midlands and League level
  • To be entering regular open meets Level 1,2,3 Short Course and Long Course.

Land Based Criteria

  • Have the ability to complete full or kneeling press ups (males/females=6+), hold a technically executed plank
  • To be able to perform a controlled plank position
  • To be able to perform burpees and skipping activities

Areas for Re Assessing Group Suitability

  • Unable to attain the relevant competitive standard.
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Performance 1 commitment, as agreed with Performance Coach 1
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Performance competition commitment, as per fixtures list.
  • Showing no demonstrable motivation or progress towards achieving the required standards of the Group

Pathways

  • Unable to meet the Group criteria – A move into either Performance 2,3 or Club/Masters (depending on age)
  • Assessment months – September, December, March/April, June/July

Performance 2

Group Aims & Objectives

To compete at County level with good commitment to the programme. Swimmers will be targeting the County Championships or Midlands Regionals. Swimmers should aim to reach the highest levels based on ability and commitment levels.

Group Entry Criteria (Accepted)

  • Having achieved at least 6 County Qualifying Times (including 200 IM and 200m Free) or Midlands qualifiers or within 3-5 %.
  • Desire and will to improve and progress through Stratford Sharks Swimming Club
  • 100% commitment to team events
  • Signed and returned copies of Swimmer Code of Conduct & Parents Code of Conduct
  • Behaviours – respectful, engaged, supportive, caring, coachable and empathetic
  • Swimmers should be able to consistently be able to
  • Consistently attending 70-100% of sessions (Pool and Land) (aiming for 3 evening sessions 1 morning and 1 land training session).
  • Be organised and professional (bringing appropriate equipment/kit/drink to each session)
    • Repeat 100m swims off 2.00 with descending target times
    • 10 x 33 Kick off 50
    • Repeat 66m kick off 1.30
    • To be able to complete a 2-hour session comfortably
    • 4 x 200m off 3.00 with descending target times
    • To be able to swim 3 x 300m swim comfortably off 4.30. Target Time under 4.20

  • Swimmers assessed by the P2 Coach & Head Coach to have near term potential, and/or having longer term potential, may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3 – 12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.
  • Swimmers that are identified/selected for any Stratford Sharks relay at County or League level
  • To be entering regular open meets Level 1,2,3 Short Course and Long Course.
  • To represent Stratford Sharks at selected Team Events

Land Based Criteria

  • To commit to a minimum of 1 land training session a week.
  • Have the ability to complete full or kneeling press ups (males/females=6+), hold a technically executed plank
  • To be able to perform skipping and burpees activities

 

Areas for Re Assessing Group Suitability

  • Unable to attain the relevant competitive standard.
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Performance 2 commitment, as agreed with Performance Coach 2
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Performance competition commitment, as per fixtures list.
  • Showing no demonstrable motivation or progress towards achieving the required standards of the Group

Pathways

  • Unable to meet the Group criteria – A move into either Club or Performance 3.
  • Assessment months – September, December, March/April, June/July

Performance 3

  • Having achieved at County 6 + qualifying Times or Midlands qualifiers or within 5% and over
  • Desire and will to improve and progress through Stratford Sharks Swimming Club
  • 100% commitment to team events
  • Signed and returned copies of Swimmer Code of Conduct & Parents Code of Conduct
  • Behaviours – respectful, engaged, supportive, caring, coachable and empathetic
  • Consistently attending 70-100% of sessions (Pool and Land) (aiming for 3 / 4 sessions during the course of the week)
  • Be organised and professional (bringing appropriate equipment/kit/drink to each session)
  • Repeat 100m’s at 2.00 with descending times
  • 3 x 200m off 3.15 with descending times
  • Repeat 66m Kick under 1.30
  • 10 x 33m kick off 50
  • To be able to complete a 2-hour session comfortably
  • To be competent on swimming 2 x 300m off 4.45 Target Time under 4.30

To compete successfully at club level and at County competitions with good commitment to the programme. Swimmers will be targeting a move into the Performance squad at the nearest possible opportunity. Swimmers should aim to reach the highest levels based on ability and commitment levels.

Male 10 years to 13 years
Female 10 years to 13 years

Group Entry Requirements (Accepted)

  • Be technically proficient at 4 strokes, able to streamline and travel 10m utilising underwater dolphin kick (front and back)
  • Able to execute legal starts/turns.
  • Desire and will to improve and progress through Stratford Sharks Swimming Club
  • 100% commitment to team events
  • Signed and returned copies of Swimmer/Club Code of Conduct
  • Behaviours – respectful, supportive, caring, coachable and empathetic
  • Recent times in the following events: 50m Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle; 100m Freestyle; plus 200m IM.
  • Swimming at least 3 sessions per week including a 2hr session.
  • 2 x 4 x 33 front crawl kick off 60s
  • 6 x 100 off 2.30 and show consistent controlled stroke and skills
  • At least 4 county times in a variety of strokes.

Group Entry Requirement (Considered)

  • Swimmers assessed by the Junior /Assistant Head Coach (& Head Coach if required), to have near term potential, and/or having longer term potential, may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3 – 12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.
  • Swimmers that are identified/selected for any Stratford Sharks relay at Club, League or County Level
  • Commitment to Competition Criteria
  • To commit to regularly participate in club competitions and race across a range of events, strokes and distances

Exit Criteria

  • Percentage of Midlands (1-5%)
  • To be able to complete 6 x 100m off 2.15 with a demonstration of control strokes and skills
  • An increase of county times in a variety of strokes/ distances.
  • To make further commitment to their swimming

Areas for Reassessing Group Suitability

  • Unable to attain the relevant competitive standard.
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Development Group training commitment, as agreed with Assistant Head Coach.
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Junior Development Group competition commitment, as per fixtures list.
  • Showing no demonstrable progress towards achieving the required standards for Potential
  • Showing no demonstrable motivation or progress towards achieving the required standard of the Group.

Pathways

  • Unable to Meet the Group Criteria– A move into Club Swim
  • Exceeds criteria/fast tracking- possible move to Performance 2/3 (Depending on percentage Midlands Qualifying Times achieved)
  • Assessment months are September, December March/ April June/July



Juniors

Lead Coach: Annette Statham

Aims & Objectives

To compete successfully at club level and possibly at County competitions with good commitment to the programme. Swimmers should be targeting to move into the Development squad at the nearest possible opportunity and aim to reach the highest level based on ability and commitment levels.

Male 8 years to 12 years
Female 8 years to 12 years

Entry Requirements 

  • Behaviours – respectful, supportive, caring, coachable and empathetic
  • Recent times in the following events: 50m Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle; 200m Freestyle or 200m in preferred stroke, 100m IM 
  • Understand lane etiquette and respect other swimmers in the lane
  • Signed and returned behaviour contracts/code of conduct
  • Ensuring all correct kit is brought to every training session, correct swimming attire and DRINK BOTTLE 
  • Proficient in 3 strokes, and a good knowledge of butterfly technique including rhythm and undulation. 
  • Demonstrate consistency in streamlining from turns and dives in training sessions and competitions
  • Demonstrate consistency in turns throughout training sessions
  • Good Technique with a competitive racing dive
  • Some recent times in all distances 50m,100m and 200m in preferred strokes. 
  • Aiming for county times in different strokes and distances.
  • Competing or willing to compete in open meets, team events and club time trials 

Commitment to Competition and Training Criteria

  • To regularly participate in club competitions, including open meets, team events and club time trials across a range of events, strokes and distances.
  • Maintain at least 70% Monthly attendance (5 session per week available)
  • To be able to perform correct and consistent streamlining throughout training sessions, open meets and galas.
  • To be able to perform correct diving technique in training, open meets and galas
  • To be able to perform consistent technique in all four turns within every training session.
  • Be able to demonstrate lane etiquette and respect for fellow swimmers in the squad
  • To demonstrate a willing to improve technique and times and show maturity in all swimming aspects. 
  • The swimmer must use the stretch cards provided by Stratford Sharks pre pool and post pool. 

Exit Criteria

  • Understand the importance of stretching, pre pool and post pool sessions using the stretching guides given by Stratford Sharks
  • Have a basic understanding of how important nutrition and diet is when competing, before and after training sessions. 
  • Taking own responsibility for correct kit, swimming attire and DRINK BOTTLE
  • Signed behavioural contracts/code of conduct
  • Commitment to extra training sessions in Development squad
  • Be proficient in all 4 strokes
  • Demonstrate consistent streamline under water phases for minimum 5 metres front and back
  • Demonstrate proficiency in competitive racing dives and consistent legal turns.
  • Have recent times in 200 IM, 200m Freestyle or preferred stroke. 100m Freestyle or preferred stroke. 50m times in all 4 strokes, all times must have been achieved at licensed meets, galas or time trials. 
  • 4 or more County Qualifying Times
  • The swimmer must compete in open meets, team galas and club time trials

Movement from Juniors to Development squad is based on achieving all of the above criteria, coach’s discretion will also influence movement decisions. It Is not a guaranteed movement into the Development squad if performance / attendance / attitude / competition attendance is not met then Club squad will be offered for swimmers. 



Academy

Group Aims & Objectives
To compete successfully at club level and at County competitions with good commitment to the programme. Swimmers will be targeting a move into the Junior Performance Group at the nearest possible opportunity. Swimmers should aim to reach the highest levels based on ability and commitment levels.

Male 7 years to 10 years (Bronze/Silver/Gold)
Female 7 years to 10 years (Bronze/Silver/Gold)

Gold Group Exit Criteria

  • Able to execute legal starts/turns.
  • Desire and will to improve and progress through Stratford Sharks Swimming Club
  • 100% commitment to team events
  • Signed and returned copies of Swimmer/Club Code of Conduct
  • Behaviours – respectful, supportive, caring, coachable and empathetic
  • Developing Skills
    • Be able to perform correct Streamlining for at least 3 fly kicks where appropriate
    • Breaststroke : need to be able to demonstrate a basic underwater phrase
    • To achieve Competitive Start Award Diving (To be able to perform a confident grab/ track start dive)
    • To show a basic technique of 3 Turns
    • To be able to use a pace clock at a basic level.
    • Show responsibility for own equipment and show lane discipline
    • Show a controlled Butterfly technique for at least 25metres
    • Understanding and performing basic pre pool warm up
    • Be technically proficient at 2 out of 3 strokes, able to streamline and travel 10m utilizing underwater dolphin kick (front and back)
    • Able to execute legal starts/turns.
    • Desire and will to improve and progress through Stratford Sharks Swimming Club

  • Swimmers that are identified/selected for any Stratford Sharks relay at Club, League and Open meet Level 3 Short course and Long Course/ Club Champs/ Time Trials.
  • Commitment to Competition Criteria
  • To commit to regularly participate in club competitions and race across a range of events, strokes and distances.

Areas for Reassessing Group Suitability

  • Unable to attain the relevant competitive standard.
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Academy Group training commitment, as agreed with Head of Academy
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Academy Group competition commitment, as per fixtures list.
  • Showing no demonstrable progress towards achieving the required standards for Potential Three.
  • Showing no demonstrable motivation or progress towards achieving the required standard of the Group
  • Target times to be achieved at a licenced meet/ training (depending on age)
  • Times to be achieved in a 25/50m pool.

Pathways

  • Unable to Meet the Group Criteria– A move into Club or Exit the club
  • Exceeds criteria/fastracking- Through Academy groups/ Development
  • Assessment months are September, December, March/April ,June/July.
